random thoughts for tuesday august 16th, 2011

1. it was a sad day 34 years ago today…..it was the day that “THE KING”, ELVIS PRESLEY died in MEMPHIS at the age of 42…..

everybody remembers where they were when ELVIS died…as for me, we were sitting by the tv watching CAPTAIN 11…my MOM was in the room ironing clothes….the announcement came on the tv, and MOM thought that ELVIS’ father, VERNON PRESLEY had died…but as we watched it, we realized that the legend was gone…what a sad day….and the fact that ELVIS was only 42 was amazing…i’m 47, and five years older than when he died…can’t beleive that…..ELVIS PRESLEY was the idol of millions around the world…and his good looks and snarly lip were trademarks that live on today…

ELVIS PRESLEY’S last few years were spent in a cloud of rumors…he obviously was the heaviest he had ever been…

and there were stories about drug abuse and kind of going crazy at GRACELAND….but that fact that ELVIS died, shocked millions of people, and caused millions of people to head to GRACELAND in the coming years to see his home….

ELVIS’ funeral was wild as well, as everybody wanted to get a final glimpse of him….this, supposedly, is the final picture ever taken of THE KING…

and this is his gravesite at GRACELAND…

and now all the crazy people are out there auctioning off ELVIS PRESLEY items…even, SUPPOSEDLY, a clump of his hair…

i have been to GRACELAND twice, and i remember the first time, i had shivers standing on the front porch of the house, where ELVIS walked every day…..as i walked into the home, i almost felt like i was trespassing, and infringing on somebody’s privacy….once in the home, i noticed the gaudy 70’s colors and the wild furniture he had.  they didn’t alter anything in the home.  the weird sensation i got was when i  stood at the foot of the stairs, knowing full well that ELVIS died upstairs in the bathroom….you can’t go upstairs, though, out of respect to ELVIS….here’s a picture of his living room…

ELVIS PRESLEY is one of the very very rare people that will live on forever….his popularity seems to pass on from generation to generation.  even the kid from my youth group were impressed by GRACELAND, even though they didn’t know the man like we did….but everybody knows the songs that made ELVIS famous…

here’s BURNING LOVE from one of his VEGAS concerts…

and this is probably my all time favorite ELVIS song…”MY WAY”…because that’s the way ELVIS did it…

2.  WHAT A GREAT NIGHT FOR MINNESOTA TWINS FANS…last night, not only did JIM THOME hit home run number 599, he also hit number 600….

here’s a very amateur video of the event…it was all i could find..ha ha

JIM THOME becomes only the EIGHTH person in major league baseball history to hit over 600…THAT IS IMPRESSIVE…plus, he becomes the ONLY person in history to hit 599 and 600 in the same night…

by all accounts, JIM THOME is one of the nicest, most kindest people to be around…i hope and pray that when his days are done, the TWINS keep him around in some coaching capacity….future players need to learn from a class act….

3.  before yesterday’s game, the TWINS traded DELMON YOUNG to the team they were playing last night, THE DETROIT TIGERS…

i really don’t care about this trade….i’ve never been a DELMON YOUNG fan, and the trade that we made for him was STUPID..we gave up hot pitching prospect MATT GARZA and an incredible shortstop in JASON BARTLETT…YOUNG had really, one good year, and from what i hear, has been kind of a thorn in the locker room periodically….

did you hear what DELMON did last night?  he HOMERED on the VERY FIRST PITCH that he had as a DETROIT TIGER…that had to make fans very very happy…..

4.  i love people who slam you in private and smile and joke with you in person…fake fake fake…..

5.  it’s TUBBY BURGER TIME…i do beleive that i’m going to have my first one today…by the way, i am SERIOUSLY going to start watching my weight starting monday…meanwhile, today, and this week at the fair, i will also watch my weight….watch it balloon….

6.  CONGRESS is out of control…i can hardly even watch the news channels anymore without wanting to reach thru the tv and hit someone..ha ha….CONGRESS acts like a bunch of little children…it’s getting pathetic….just do the job the people asked you to do, and SHUT UP…

7.  former MINNESOTA governor, TIM PAWLENTY, has dropped out of the presidential race after losing big time to MICHELE BACHMANN, another MINNESOTA person…PAWLENTY now might take on MINNESOTA senator AMY KLOBUCHAR…he’s going to keep running and running until he finds a girl he can beat….

8.  a 98 year old CALIFORNIA woman has earned HER TENTH DEGREE BLACK BELT…here’s an idea…send her to WASHINGTON, D.C., and CONGRESS won’t DARE cut social security…

9.  an INDONESIAN mental patient who did prison time for cannibalism, says that he is looking for a wife…however, he won’t marry a stranger…he’d want to have her over for dinner first….

10.  an episode of “JERSEY SHORE” beat the latest republican presidential debate in the ratings….yet another sign that the world is coming to an end…

11.  the ST. LOUIS CARDINALS star ALBERT PUJOLS, hit the longest home run in BUSCH stadium history…..it went 465 feet…to put that into perspective, the ball was watched longer than TIM PAWLENTY’S presidential campaign….

12.  PATRICK SCHWARZENEGGER, son of ARNOLD AND MARIA, is posing shirtless in an advertisement for a blue jean company…and just like his father, the jeans are half off….

A man was walking in the street when he heard a voice. “Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step, a brick will fall down on your head and kill you.”
The man stopped and a big brick fell right in front of him. The man was astonished.
He went on, and after awhile he was going to cross the road. Once again the voice shouted: “Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step a car will run over you and you will die.”
The man did as he was instructed, just as a car came careening around the corner, barely missing him.
“Where are you?” the man asked. “Who are you?”
Then right before his eyes the most pure and innocent looking female he had ever seen materializes before him. She is stunningly beautiful, flowing blonde hair with a golden halo on top and has delicate feathered wings sprouting from her back.
“I am your guardian angel,” the girl answers with a blink of her long eyelashes.
“Oh yeah?” says the man, as he shoves her in the path of an oncoming bus where she disappears on impact in a cloud of feathers, “And where the heck were you when I was getting married?”

  1. Wonderful show even though he was struggling to breathe. Shame on those who exploited this truly gifted and spiritual human being. I wish he had been surrounded by people who really cared for his well being and who would arise to the occasion and help him instead of letting him meet such an untimedly end. God Bless You – Elvis.
