random thoughts for tuesday october 4th, 2011

WELL, IT COULD BE WORSE..IT COULD BE MONDAY AGAIN…

HERE ARE YOUR TUESDAY MORNING FUNNIES…

EVER FEEL LIKE THIS?

1.  i was reading the digest for today and found out that today would have been CHARLTON HESTON’S 88th birthday…he, of course, died on april 5th, 2008….HESTON is known for playing in some incredibly awesome movies including “THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.”

and here is CHARLTON HESTON getting some “HOT MONKEY LOVE” on “PLANET OF THE APES.”  apparently he went BANANAS over this ape…okay, that’s enough monkey jokes…

here are a couple of pictures of CHARLTON HESTON in his later years…

2.  actor BILL FAGERBAKKE turns 54 today…don’t know the name?  maybe not…but you WILL know who he is…

BILL played the dimwit character DAUBER DYBINSKI on the tv show “COACH.” he’s the tall guy in the back….

here’s BILL FAGERBAKKE today on his 54th birthday…

your kids will DEFINETLY know his voice…BILL does the voice of PATRICK on “SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS.”

3.  everyone who knows me, knows that HANK WILLIAMS, SR. is my all time favorite singer/songwriter…..in my opinion, it’s INSANE what music he wrote and performed in his short 29 years on this life…

HANK WILLIAMS didn’t write “CLASSICS”, he wrote “STANDARDS.”  everybody knows the words to “HEY GOOD LOOKIN'”, and “YOUR CHEATIN’ HEART.”

the reason i bring HANK up today, is that last night i was watching one of those “country reunion” shows on RFD-TV…and on that show was HANK WILLIAMS’ original steel guitar player DON HELMS…he did a steel guitar solo of the opening of “COLD COLD HEART” that made VINCE GILL cry….

years ago while i was working radio in LISBON, NORTH DAKOTA, i had the extreme honor of sitting and talking with DON HELMS, the steel guitar for HANK, and JERRY RIVERS, the original fiddle player for HANK…they were in his band ‘THE DRIFTING COWBOYS.”  DON AND JERRY are on the right of this photo…

this was one of the greatest moments in my professional career, if NOT the GREATEST…i got to sit and talk to two guys who were with HANK WILLIAMS from the start until his death in 1952 at the age of 29….i was so thrilled to hear thier stories….

both DON AND JERRY are gone now, but their incredible music will live on whenever classic country fans listen to HANK WILLIAMS…here are DON AND JERRY as i remember them…i’m not sure who the guy is in the middle of this photo…

4.  in case you were wondering what my all time favorite HANK WILLIAMS song is, i’ll let you know…

it’s called “MANSION ON THE HILL.”  here it is…see if you remember it….

5.  speaking of HANK WILLIAMS, his son, HANK WILLIAMS, JR., made a bonehead move the other day…he has now been suspended as the singer of the theme song for “MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.”  for many years, we have been singing “ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?”  well, for the time being we will not be singing that….

why?  HANK WILLIAMS, JR.  was on FOX the other day and made some very unfortunate comments….he compared PRESIDENT OBAMA to ADOLPH HITLER…wow…if you have time, watch the video…

6.  what a great event at KESSLER’S yesterday…i was honored to be part of the “FIGHT LIKE A GIRL” event for breast cancer awareness month…i met numerous people who have been impacted by breast cancer, and i heard many inspirational stories…..it was a beautiful time for me….very very moving…

7.  a jury in ITALY overturned AMANDA KNOX’S murder conviction…she was brought up on charges of helping to kill her former roommate….AMANDA says she can’t wait to return to AMERICA and do the hardest thing she’s ever had to do…find a new roommate…

8.  HOOTERS is suing a restaurant chain called ‘TWIN PEAKS’, for allegedly stealing their trade secrets…….REALLY?  the reason HOOTERS is successful IS A SECRET?  don’t think so…

9.  a woman from CANADA wants to send her dead parents ashes on  trip around the world….so, she checked them in a suitcase on a flight from CLEVELAND to LOS ANGELES…

10.  according to a new survey, people who are “easily embarrassed” are more trustworthy…..and people who are “not easily embarrassed” plan to run for CONGRESS….

11.  JOKE OF THE DAY: (thanks CAROL…)

A farmer was driving his old pick-up truck down a rural stretch of road when he was pulled over by a state trooper.

Officer: “Sir, did you know that your wife fell out of your truck about two miles back?”

Farmer: “Oh, thank God. I thought I was goin’ deaf!”

HAVE A WONDERFUL TUESDAY EVERYBODY…
