random thoughts for monday may 6th, 2013

well, it was just another birthday yesterday….i didn’t get a cake, but if i had…..this might have been the one….

more on what i did for my birthday coming up shortly……

1.  alright…first of all, MY WEEKEND…..it was a crazy crazy busy weekend…but i loved it….

it started out with my son TYLER graduating from NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY in ABERDEEN….i could not be more proud of him…..he set out to do what he said he would, and he did…..i didn’t make it all the way thru college, so i’m so happy TYLER did…..here is the graduate along with mom and dad…our son MITCHELL was taking the picture…..by the way, yes, TYLER’S dad was a crybaby at the graduation….and i was so so so thrilled that my son MITCHELL was home from MOORHEAD..i miss that kid so much!!!

and here’s a photo of my two most precious things in the world…..my babies…..

on saturday night i had a prayer service in HECLA for a beautiful lady who died at 94………and yesterday, on my birthday, we had her funeral in HECLA….i will never forget this wonderful woman….she had “glimpses of heaven” in her final days that really sent our faith into high gear……and how beautiful is this?  the family took a picture of her husband holding her hand during her last few breaths….this is AMAZING…

yesterday morning, we had CONFIRMATION SUNDAY at our church in HECLA….(yep..it was truly a busy weekend)….i had six beautiful young ladies in confirmation class the past two years, and i was excited, yet sad, for yesterday….each girl had to prepare a speech about thier faith and what confirmation meant to them….and after they were all done, i looked at them and said, “YOU GOT IT…I’M SO PROUD OF YOU…YOU GOT IT.”   by their messages, they had shown me and the congregation that this past two years were fruitful  for them…..I LOVE THESE GIRLS…..

in the back you will see a 3-D picture of JESUS…..that was given to our churches in HECLA AND HOUGHTON in memory of my dad….if you ever get to the church, stop and see it…it’s amazing….and very inspirational…….

i left home around 5:15am on my birthday and got back home last night around 6:15…..i ate a JIMMY’S PIZZA, laid on the couch and watched tv with my wife and went to bed…….it was a very very happy and rewarding birthday……..

this first one is EXACTLY how i feel…..

MITCHELL, JEANNIE AND I watched one of our favorite movies this weekend….MEL BROOK’S  classic movie “SPACEBALLS.”  this next one is in tribute to that great movie…….

and finally, this last one made me laugh out loud!!!

3.  okay…i have to admit it…I HAVE TWO TATTOOS….both hidden under my sleeves, but i have them…….AND I HATE NEEDLES…how about that?  anyway, i have a very deep meaning family one on my right arm, and i have the following one on my left arm….

the whole reason i’m bringing this up is this….IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO A TATTOO, KNOW WHAT YOU WANT…AND BRING A DOGGONE DICTIONARY WITH YOU…..WHY?  because of these idiots…..

(hope she had fun at her high school PROME…..sheesh….)

4.  yesterday at church, i found out that i celebrated my birthday with one of my confirmation students named BROOKE, and a beautiful older lady from OAKES that i have known for years……but, i also celebrate with a couple of incredible singers…….

the legendary TAMMY WYNETTE was born on may 5th…..each year that i was in radio i would play a TAMMY WYNETTE song on our birthday and dedicate it to her…one year while working in LISBON, NORTH DAKOTA, i sent a fax to TAMMY’S management office wishing her a happy birthday…..i was SHOCKED because 10 minutes later TAMMY WYNETTE sent a fax back to me…..i have it encased at home, and i cherish it…….

about a year after that in NASHVILLE, i ran into TAMMY WYNETTE and her husband GEORGE RICHEY…i was so nervous meeting her but she was so so wonderful…i told her where i was from, and she said, “are you the one i celebrate my birthday with?”  i said “yes”, and then she gave me a hug…..ISN’T THAT AWESOME?  with all she has to remember, she remembered that she celebrated the same birthday as me…I LOVE THAT WOMAN AND MISS HER SO MUCH……..

the beautiful TAMMY WYNETTE died in 1998 at the age of only 55…she had years of hospitalization, over 26 major surgeries and other issues…….i cannot believe that i’m 49 and she was only FIFTY FIVE when she died…wow…..anyway, here are a couple of pictures of TAMMY WYNETTE in her last couple of years….she reunited with former husband GEORGE JONES for an album called “ONE.”  they also did some tour dates, but you could see her health was taking a toll on her……

how about a couple of TAMMY WYNETTE songs?  we can’t do a tribute without “STAND BY YOUR MAN”…one of the iconic songs in country music history….

here’s my all time favorite TAMMY WYNETTE song…”APARTMENT NUMBER NINE.”   (written by a young JOHNNY PAYCHECK.)

and who doesn’t love this song…..”TIL I CAN MAKE IT ON MY OWN.”

5.  plus, i share birthdays with the incredibly awesome singer ADELE….she’s one of the newer artists in pop music, but she’s probably the biggest….her album “21” has now sold over THIRTY MILLION COPIES WORLDWIDE….wow…..

here’s ADELE in her younger days….

and here is the beautiful singer recently…by the way, ADELE is only 25…….

and here’s a tribute to my other birthday partner…ADELE….here’s her first major hit, a song i love….”CHASING PAVEMENTS.”

and here’s her beautiful song “SOMEONE LIKE YOU.”

6.  on friday night, JEANNIE, MITCHELL, AND I went to see the new ROBERT DOWNEY, JR. movie “IRONMAN 3″…..

ALL THREE OF US LOVED IT….it’s a “superhero” movie, but they add some funny moments too….when this series started i really couldn’t see ROBERT DOWNEY, JR. as a superhero, but he is absolutely PERFECT…..good good movie….highly recommended…..

7.  i received a very nice birthday gift yesterday…..THE MINNESOTA WILD BEAT THE CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS IN GAME THREE OF THE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS….i was coming home from HECLA last night listening to the game as it went into overtime……and then…JASON ZUCKER hits a shot and THE WILD WIN…

here’s PIERRE-MARC BOUCHARD putting in another goal…

my beloved MINNESOTA WILD now are behind two games to one in the seven game series….game four is tuesday night in ST. PAUL….GUESS  WHERE MY BUTT IS GOING TO BE PLANTED TOMORROW NIGHT?

A guy sticks his head into a barber shop and asks “Hey, Buddy! how long before I can get a haircut?”
The barber looks around the shop and says “about 2 hours,” and the guy leaves.
A few days later the same guy sticks his head in the door and asks…”how long before I can get a haircut?”
Again, the barber looks around at a shop full of customers and says”about 2 hours.” The guy leaves.
A week… later the same guy sticks his head in the shop and asks”how long before I can get a haircut?” The barber looks around the shop and says “about an hour and a half”. The guy leaves.
The barber looks over at a friend in the shop and says “Hey, Joey, I’ll give you a free cut if you follow that guy and see where he goes.”
In a little while, Joey comes back into the shop laughing hysterically. The barber says,”this must be good, where did he go when he left here?”
Joey says, “To your house!”

  1. Happy birthday (belated), Jay! You also share a birthday with one of the most special people I ever knew, my great-grandmother, Rev. Lillian L. Beloat. She was born in 1903, and of all the people God ever placed in my life, she was the most magnificent example of a life lived for Jesus Christ that I have ever seen. She died at 98 years old, nearly two weeks after her last birthday.

My birthday is this month as well, on the 27th, and I’m HOPING to get your cake! LOL! It’s perfect! But, I’m hoping if someone makes it, or gets it for me, it’ll have navy blue and neon green icing. That lavender in the pic is great, but, I’d like my last birthday before fifty to be in my fav color combo.

God bless and have a great week!

    1. thanks a bunch…yes, i hear that a lot…that my sons a carbon copy…poor kid..not much of a future..ha ha
