one of the EVERLY BROTHERS has died…..I’m sad…..PHIL EVERLY and his brother DON EVERLY paved the way for the tight harmony rock and roll transition into country music…..yesterday we lost on of them…..PHIL EVERLY died at the age of 74….he died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at a hospital in Burbank, California.
PHIL EVERLY is on the left of this classic photo….
how important were the EVERLY BROTHERS? check this out….
the legendary BEATLES called themselves “THE ENGLISH EVERLY BROTHERS.”
BOB DYLAN once said, “WE OWE THESE GUYS EVERYTHING….THEY STARTED IT ALL…”
the EVERLY BROTHERS are known for dozens and dozens of big hits including the following ones….
the EVERLY BROTHERS had the most infamous on stage fight in music history….in 1973 they had been quarreling, and “live” on stage, PHIL EVERLY slammed his guitar down and walked off. brother DON was left to tell the crowd that they were done…..THEIR RELATIONSHIP BREAKUP LASTED TEN YEARS…a decade of brothers not talking to each other…sad….then in 1983, they reunited and had their famous reunion concert at ROYAL ALBERT HALL in LONDON…and the rest, as they say, is history…..
I had the extreme pleasure of seeing the EVERLY BROTHERS once…and possibly twice…..I know for sure I saw them at the FARGODOME, and they were incredibly awesome….I’ve said before…THERE IS NOTHING LIKE FAMILY HARMONY IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS…..I also believe that I saw them at a COUNTRYFEST outside of BRITTON, SOUTH DAKOTA back in the mid 80’s….can’t remember for sure though…..I know I saw JAN AND DEAN there……
this is a sad day for the music world…..their harmony will be no more……..all we can do is honor them by playing their music, which we will do shortly….
here’s PHIL EVERLY recently……
his brother DON is still alive and kicking…he will turn 77 this year….here’s DON EVERLY recently…..
and now, on to the music……
here’s the legendary classic “BYE BYE LOVE.”
check out “WAKE UP LITTLE SUZY.”
how about “ALL I HAVE TO DO IS DREAM.” this song still gives me chills…
and, here’s, I believe, my personal favorite from THE EVERLY BROTHERS….. “SO SAD TO WATCH GOOD LOVE GO BAD.”
REST IN PEACE PHIL EVERLY!!!!!
