I decided that instead of stopping putting this blog out there, that I would modify my blog to combine my new radio show AND my current blog.  The changes will be coming rather quickly, and I hope that you still read and support what I do.  I have been doing this for over a decade and love bringing you my point of view on some fun stuff.

The new blog will be called “Country Legends Jukebox”, which is the name of my new radio show that has taken off BIG TIME.

Like I said, this blog won’t be going away, it will be just changing.

I appreciate and love you all for your following and support!!

THIS is how we roll in South Dakota!!

We have had some BEAUTIFUL weather, but we can’t get cocky until about mid June.  At least by then the threat of snow will be gone. For a few weeks.

Your blog is sponsored by Pierson Ford in Aberdeen, SD.  Wow, the lease specials have been crazy.  People have been driving Fords out of here like crazy.  The F-150 leases are great.  Fusion leases are awesome.  Practically every Ford vehicle has great lease options right now.

What you can do is check out our inventory at and then give us a call at 1-800-627-1237.  We want to help you get in the vehicle of your dreams!!

Thank goodness I like my doctor.

And now from the “where are they now?” file.

I’m probably the only one in the world that was bored stiff in this store.

This spuds for you.

And last but not least!

2.  Well, in case you’re wondering, my new radio show went off without a hitch.  And, I’m hearing some rave reviews of it, too.

This show has been a dream of mine.  If you love classic country music, I mean the TWANG of country music, then I invite you to listen to the show.  “Country Legends Jukebox” is on every Sunday afternoon from 3-5PM CENTRAL TIME.  You can follow the link below and listen to the show if you would like to.

Just click on the “listen live to 105.5” icon and you can hear the show.  Then, let me know what you think!!

3.  Another Hollywood icon is gone.  The “mouth” has died.  Don Rickles was 90 years old when he died this week.  Nice long life. Don Rickles was the king of insult comedy.  I used to love watching him on Johnny Carson’s show.  I will say though, a little went a long way with me.  I loved him for the first five minutes and then it kind of got old.  Did you remember that Don was one of the characters on the “Toy Story” movie series?

it’s funny how sometimes the “act” that performers put on is nothing like who they are in real life.  Such, apparently, was the case with Don Rickles.  Since he died, numerous celebrities have come out to say that he was the “kindest guy ever”, and that he “lit up a room”, and that “he was everybody’s best friend.”

Sounds like Don was a legend in more ways than one.

4.  Here comes the NHL postseason.  And what about my team?  This pretty much tells it all.

17671134_10210513566888893_935104192_n (2)

For the past three weeks everybody has been “poking” the Minnesota Wild hoping they would come alive and “do stuff.”  Every team hits a losing streak during the season.  The sad thing is that the Wild didn’t have one until recently.  The end of the regular season is probably not the best of times for a losing streak.  However, with the playoffs beginning next week, we will find out which team will show up.  Will it be the team that many picked to get in the Stanley Cup Finals, or will it be the team that has caused me to gray even more in the past three weeks.

5.  Guess who’s coming to Sioux Falls?

PAUL SIMON!!!  And, yes, I already have tickets!!  One of the most heartbreaking times in concert going happened to be around a dozen years ago.  I probably have mentioned this story, but my beautiful wife got me tickets for my birthday to see “Simon And Garfunkel” in Fargo.  I was PUMPED.  I have always loved their music.  Well, long story even longer, they cancelled the tour because Art Garfunkel developed some throat issues.  My heart was broken.  So, now at least we get to see HALF of the duo.  And, my wife and I love love love Paul Simon’s solo stuff.

I was actually able to turn my TV on one Saturday morning awhile back and I was APPALLED by the lack of Saturday morning programming.  WHERE ARE THE CARTOONS?  And this picture is true.  If your channel’s name is CARTOON Network, then, you would think all the programming is cartoons.

Which got me thinking about some of my favorite cartoons from when I was a kid.  See if you remember some of my favorites.

Who didn’t like “Underdog” and Miss Polly?  Even the villains were fun!

The goolies was one of my all time favorite cartoons.  It made monster movies less scary, I guess.  And remember when Sabrina was part of the show?

But, of course, we always got up super early on Saturday mornings so we didn’t miss this next one.

I have a box set of some of the “Looney Tunes”, and I don’t watch it as much as I should.  There really wasn’t a character that I didn’t like, except for maybe “PEPE LEPEW.”  I just never got into that one.

Sigmund was one of my favorites, probably because Johnny Whitaker from “Family Affair” was on the show.  Billy Barty playing Sigmund also was pretty cool.

Thank goodness I didn’t take drugs when I was a kid.  Otherwise H.R. Pufnstuf would have been OUT OF THIS WORLD.

And finally.

This is another one that you wouldn’t have wanted to be buzzed while you were watching.  The funny thing is, I’ve seen some of the reruns, and they certainly didn’t carry on the same magic 40 years later.

It’s amazing that our Mom couldn’t get our butts out of bed in the morning for school during the week, but come Saturday morning, we were on the floor in the living room ready to watch 6 hours of cartoons.

By the way, we started out the morning at 5:30AM with “Davey and Goliath.”

7.  How about this!!

I have said for years and years that social media will be the destruction of this country.  And I think it will be.  It is so easy to bash someone or spread rumors and lies via social media.  Our leaders, entertainers, whomever, can’t take two steps and someone is bashing them.  Social media is an invisible wall that some very very unhappy and pathetic people hide behind.  This country has become so very negative.  We seem to hate more than we love.  Social media has a lot to do with that.

With that said, there are things I do love about social media.  I love keeping up with friends and family on Facebook.  I have connected with friends from 40 years ago that I haven’t seen in that long.  But the bashing and negative stuff is taking a toll on me.  We need to regroup as a country and as friends and family.  But, because of social media, I think it’s probably too late.

Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was really angry. She told him “Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE!” The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale. Bob has been missing since Friday.

If my calculations are correct, I think this guy’s right!!

Yet another reason why I don’t have cats.

In today’s world you have to be fair.  One for the cats, now one for the dogs.

This one cracked me up BIG TIME!

And finally.

2.  OK.  I have my big announcement.  After 25-30 years of dreaming about doing this, it has FINALLY come true.  Ladies and gentlemen.  I present my brand new venture.

Country Legends Jukebox is a two hour show featuring all of the greatest songs of country music history from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and some 80’s.  The exciting thing for me is that it is going to be playing so far on stations in Aberdeen, SD, Carrington and Oakes, ND, plus Sioux Center, Iowa, which goes cleanly into the Sioux Falls, SD market.

My goal is to have this program on at least 15-20 radio stations during the first year!  I plan on marketing this show all across the country if possible.

We will also be doing t-shirts eventually.  Here are the t-shirt designs.  By the way, they will be on a black t-shirt.17190444_10212266931925291_3619778269388436705_n

That’s the front of the shirt, and this will be the back.

I have never been so excited about a venture.  I will let you know when the website is up.  We are thinking maybe in late April.  Hopefully.

If you have a business with deep pockets that wants to advertise in a whole bunch of spots, message me and we’ll talk.

3.  Speaking of country music, my Christmas gift from my wife and kids two years ago was tickets to see one of my favorites, Alan Jackson, in Brookings, SD.  I was excited because this was his “greatest hits” tour.  Well, long story even longer, he had to postpone the date.  So they set another date, and he postponed that one as well.  Then, they just cancelled the event and gave us our money back.  I was torked.

So, lo and behold……

Actually, I have to perform a wedding that night, and also my wife and I have tickets to see Bruno Mars that weekend.  But would I go if I could?  I don’t know.  I just don’t trust Alan Jackson to actually be there.

4.  I have always wondered about this.

Pizza is my favorite food.  Whenever I go into a city I’ve never been to, I try to find a pizza place that I have never eaten at so that I can try something new.  I worked at Pizza Hut for about three years after high school.  We got to take a small pizza home for every 4 hours that we worked each day.  Obviously, I was full time, so I ate pizza EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Which begs the question.  What would be my favorite pizza?  I will tell you.

For cooking at home it has to be Papa Murphy’s.  I love their sauce.

For eating inside or take out, I will take the pan pizza supreme from Pizza Hut, with ANYTHING from Old Chicago coming in at a close second.

With pizza I’m not very fussy.  Until the other day when we ordered a pizza with everything from a local Italian place.  We waited for it to get here and then….IT HAD SARDINES ON IT.  FISH…YUCK…Anchovies is what I believe they call them.  I learned a valuable lesson that day.  ALWAYS ask what “everything” is when ordering a pizza!!!

5.  The NCAA tournament is on, and by the time you read this my teams may be out.  HA HA…Who am I hoping wins?

My son Tyler dates a beautiful girl named Carly, and as you may remember from a previous post, she works for the Kansas Jayhawks.  So, I’m a Jayhawk from now until the tourney is on.

However, other than my Tennessee Volunteers, I only cheer for one other team in the men’s NCAA tournament.

Today they defeated our South Dakota team, South Dakota State University Jackrabbits.  Now, it’s Kansas and Gonzaga to cheer for.  May the best team win.  (Just not Kentucky.)

6.  And now, my new team logo for the Washington Redskins.

fire garbage dumpster dumpster fire trash fire GIF
That’s right, team is a DUMPSTER FIRE.
This actually makes me sick.  We were a half game out of the playoffs this year and lost four of the last six games of the season.  Obviously we were playoff capable.  And then, our brainiacs DON’T sign Kirk Cousins to a long term deal, and they DO release players like Desean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Chris Baker, and others.  Yep, our number ONE and number TWO receivers weren’t signed again.  THEN, they FIRE our general manager over some kind of supposed “power struggle.”  It’s one piece of drama after another with this team.  Rumors have it that Kirk Cousins wants out, and frankly I cannot blame him.  Although I would be crushed if he left.
This year marks the 45th year of me being a Redskins fan.  I’m not a fair weather fan.  I have been with them thru the Super Bowls and 0-8 starts.  I have seen players come and go.  But this offseason has me really really thinking.  And my thoughts aren’t good.
7.  Sound familiar?
I think that social media is going to be the downfall of our country.  Cell phones, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, they are all going to ruin us.  Nobody has a face to face conversation anymore.  It’s so easy to blast people and defame their name on social media.  WITH NO CONSEQUENCES.  Peoples relationships, careers, and LIVES are being ruined by people hiding behind a fake name on social media.  It makes me sick.  I hope to God that things turn around and go back the other way, but I’m afraid we are too too too too too too late.

A married couple is lying in bed when the phone rings at 3AM.  The wife answers and sharply says, “How the heck should I know?  We live 200 miles inland!!!”  The husband wakes up and says, “who in the world was that?”  And the wife answers, “just some idiot wondering if the coast was clear.”
A wife got so mad at her husband that she packed his bags, set them on the sidewalk and told him to GET OUT.  She then yells at him, “I hope you die a slow and painful death!!”  To which the husband replies, “So then, you want me to STAY?”

Anyway, I’m back with a powerful, awesome, stupendous new blog.  I don’t think I’ve ever used the word “stupendous” before!!

Your blog is, as always, sponsored by Pierson Ford in Aberdeen, SD.

With this INCREDIBLE weather we’ve been having, we have been addressing our lot by moving lots of stuff around.  Plus, we’ve added a few vehicles from auction and from trade-ins.  In case you didn’t hear, we are having upper 40’s to low 50’s for highs.  For February, that is AWESOME!!

I was actually on vacation last week, and I came back this week to wonderful news on leases.  Right now for a limited time, you can lease a 2016 Ford F-150 for as low as 389 a month, with only the first payment due.  Seriously, that is one great deal.

To see our great lineup of new and pre-owned vehicles go to our website where you can shop 24 hours a day.

1.  Please sit back and let me tickle your funny bone.

A little animal humor.  Pass the ketchup please.

My son and I actually laughed out loud at this next one.

This one had me really EGG-CITED.

This public service announcement is brought to you by….GERBER.

And finally, a little social media humor.

There, unfortunately may be some SAD truth to this last one.

2.  Very soon on this blog I will have some MAJOR news.  I will give you a teaser.

I am dying to tell someone.  I will let everyone know, probably in the next couple of weeks.

3.  Well, the NFL has begun their post season cleanup.  Some players are being released, and some players are being signed.  Everyone knows the troubles that Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh had in recent times. Guess what?  He actually signed with the Seattle Seahawks the other day, and I have the contract to prove it.

And it’s even written in PURPLE ink.

4.  I had an incredible weekend this past weekend.  I spent four days with my boys in St. Paul.  Plus, as an added feature, I got to spend time with our son Tyler’s beautiful new girlfriend.  And if THAT wasn’t enough, some of the sales staff from Pierson Ford came down Saturday afternoon for a Minnesota Wild game on Sunday afternoon.

Our fun weekend started Friday night with a Minnesota Timberwolves game.  Well, it was fun until the end of the game.  The T-Wolves did their classic move.  Lead all game and then pee it down their leg in the final quarter.

Anyway, Tyler’s girlfriend Carly works for the Kansas Jayhawks.  She goes around and recruits kids to come to their school.  Friday night was Jayhawks night at the game, so Carly took me and the boys with her.

After the game we had the opportunity to meet former Jayhawks players Brandon Rush, Cole Aldrich, and Tyrel Reed.

And then on Saturday, the Pierson Ford gang met up with us and we had some fun in St. Paul.  One of the stops was at a place called Tom Reid’s.  Yes, THAT Tom Reid.  The guy that used to play with the Minnesota North Stars, and is currently one of the voices on the radio for the Minnesota Wild.  And, he was hanging around, so I visited with him.

On Sunday it was the reason we were all there.  A MINNESOTA WILD HOCKEY GAME. If you have never been to a Wild game, you’re missing out.  With all the games I have seen in Minneapolis, Washington, D.C., Green Bay and other places, THIS is my favorite place to watch a sporting event.  The Ex-Cel Energy Center.  I would rather go to a Wild game than ANY other game in the country.

Here I am with my three loves.  My incredibly handsome boys and Tyler’s cutie.

And here’s the Pierson Ford gang hanging out by the ice.

Inside the “X” as it is called, they have a tribute to Twin Cities uber-legend Prince, who as you know died last year.

I forgot to mention that on Saturday before the gang arrived, I had three hours to kill so I went to the  Minnesota Wild hockey store in the “X”.  There was a line growing, so I checked it out and found out that Wild players Erik Haula and Marco Scandella were coming to do autographs.  I’m not a huge autograph guy anymore, but I thought I’d get in line for a picture and an autograph as well.

I waited in line for quite a while, and wouldn’t you know it, they stopped the line about 20 people in front of me because the guys had to leave.  So, to prove I was there, I ran in and snuck a couple of pictures myself.

Pretty cool stuff.

5.  While I was at Kansas Jayhawk’s night at the Timberwolves game, I kept hearing Kansas fans yell, “ROCK CHALK.”  I thought they were saying something different and was quickly corrected.  Apparently that is their official slogan that they yell during basketball and football.

I had NO idea what it meant, so I waited until I got home and did some research and here’s what I found out.

Rock Chalk, Jayhawk

The chant was first adopted by the university’s science club in 1886. Chemistry professor E.H.S. Bailey and his colleagues were returning by train to Lawrence, Kansas after a conference. During their travel, they discussed a need of a rousing yell. They came up with “Rah, Rah, Jayhawk, Go KU”, repeated three times, which later became “Rock Chalk Jayhawk, KU”.

By 1889, “Rock Chalk”—a transposition of chalk rock, a type of limestone, that exists in the Cretaceous-age bedrocks of central and western parts of the state as well as on Mount Oread, where the University is located, which is similar to the coccalith-bearing chalk of the white cliffs of Dover—later replaced the two “rahs.” Those responsible for the change are unknown, with Bailey himself crediting the geology department, and others an English professor.

Former United States President Theodore Roosevelt called the Rock Chalk chant, the greatest college chant he ever heard. Which is SUPER COOL.

(By the way, most of the above information came from the internet.  I am CERTAINLY not smart enough to think like that.)

6.  You are not going to believe this story.  This past weekend my boys and I were record store shopping, and while I was at one of the stores I was searching thru the CD’S and found a greatest hits of Al Jarreau.  I used to love his 1981 hit “We’re In This Love Together.”

I carried the CD around for awhile and then decided not to get it.  When I got back to my room, I learned that AL JARREAU HAD DIED THAT MORNING.  CRAZY!!!

Al Jarreau was 76.  He had won SEVEN Grammy’s in his lifetime.  Pretty impressive.  And how’s this for horrible.  Al died TWO DAYS after announcing his retirement.  Sad.  Here he is in later years.

Al Jarreau

We can’t do a tribute without hearing his huge hit song.  Don’t remember it?  Listen, and YOU WILL.

I have a feeling I will run into a bunch of “dealers.”

8.  While surfing the internet the other day, an ad popped up for a line of clothing that was, well, a little loud.  And by a little, I mean A LOT.  My wife says that I would buy most of that clothing if I wasn’t married to her.  She may be right.  Well, she USUALLY is.

I thought I would share a couple of the items with you.

These pants are only FOURTEEN DOLLARS.  And probably for a reason.

And here’s a shirt you would NEVER catch me in.  Well, maybe not.

However, there was an item I may have bought.  Couldn’t you just see me in this?

I would imagine that I would look pretty good in that.  My wife’s view may differ.

There was an elderly couple who in their old age noticed that they were getting a lot more forgetful, so they decided to go to the doctor. The doctor told them that they should start writing things down so they don’t forget. They went home and the old lady told her husband to get her a bowl of ice cream. “You might want to write it down,” she said. The husband said, “No, I can remember that you want a bowl of ice cream.” She then told her husband she wanted a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream. “Write it down,” she told him, and again he said, “No, no, I can remember: you want a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream.” Then the old lady said she wants a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream and a cherry on top. “Write it down,” she told her husband and again he said, “No, I got it. You want a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream and a cherry on top.” So he goes to get the ice cream and spends an unusually long time in the kitchen, over 30 minutes. He comes out to his wife and hands her a plate of eggs and bacon. The old wife stares at the plate for a moment, then looks at her husband and asks, “Where’s the toast?”

HEY HOWDY PARTNERS!!!  I absolutely love the following picture.

Is that my sense of humor or what?

Plus it does make me excited that with every day ending, we are ONE DAY closer to spring.

I swear that my Mom had this talent.  Probably EVER Mom.

This next one is funny.  It could get you KILLED, but it’s funny.

How about a little Grandpa humor?  I LOVE this one.

And, to be fair to Grandma, here goes.

And now, a blonde moment.

2.  I just looked at the calendar and realized that yesterday was January 25th.  Why is that important?  Well, three months from yesterday will be our 30th wedding anniversary.  THIRTY YEARS.  That POOR POOR woman.

In fact, it seems like every time someone asks how many years we’ve been married, they always end it with, “you have my sympathy”, or a comment in that general area.  Seriously, am I THAT BAD?  Please don’t answer that.

3.  Funny moment.  When I was working at my church in Hecla, SD yesterday afternoon, an update came up on my phone that said, “traffic in the Hecla area is light at this moment.”  GEEZ…I would hope so.  There’s like 200 people in that town.  So, I watched the road by the church, and sure enough TWO vehicles came by in a 45 second period.  That’s not light.  That’s RUSH HOUR in Hecla.

4.  MUSIC TIME.  Make sure to turn your speakers up and listen, because you will LOVE the memories these songs bring back.

While I was in the shower the other day, a couple of songs played on my I-pod that had me singing at the top of my lungs.  (Sorry about the vision of me in the shower.  It makes me sick to my stomach as well.)

These were basically one hit wonders from the 70’s.  And they were considered “child acts.”  One comes from a legendary musical family, and one was just a family band.

Let’s do my favorite first.

Tony DeFranco and the DeFranco family had a couple of hits around 1973.  I remember our babysitter bringing her records over to our house and playing songs for us.  This song got played A BUNCH.

Remember that band?

Here they are a few years ago.

Tony DeFranco, by the way, is now 57 years old.  How does THAT make you feel?  He is a real estate agent in Los Angeles.

OK, CRANK THE SPEAKERS!  Here you go!!  And it’s from the JACK BENNY SHOW!!  BONUS!!!

They also had a couple of minor hits like “Abracadabra” and “Save The Last Dance For Me”, but none was bigger than this classic!

5.  The other child star from 1973ish is the youngest of America’s family band, The Osmonds.  It is, of course, Little Jimmy Osmond.  Remember this smash?

“Long Haired Lover From Liverpool” was a super cool radio hit.  I still listen to it all the time.

He was such a cutie too!!

Believe it or not, Jimmy Osmond is basically my age.  He is now 53 year old, and still performing with The Osmond Family.

You may not think you might remember this song, but I think you will. ONCE AGAIN, CRANK THE SPEAKERS!!!

This video made me smile.  So cute, and so talented.

6.  OK, one more song.  This song is actually one of my 20 favorite songs of all time.  Possibly in the top ten.  And that is all forms of music……everything.

It’s by a band called “Gallery.”

CRANK IT UP ONE MORE TIME.  This song never gets old to me.  I think, however, it DOES get old to my wife.

7.  Another great actress is gone.  By now you probably know that Mary Tyler Moore died this past Wednesday at the age of 80.  She had some health problems over the years.

What an actress!  She started out with Dick Van Dyke on the classic TV show “The Dick Van Dyke Show”.

And, of course, she is probably more known for playing Mary Richards on the Minneapolis based TV show “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.”

This legendary show spawned other TV shows like “Rhoda”, “Lou Grant”, and others.  She was instrumental in helping a lot of people’s careers as well.  You might notice a younger Betty White in the bottom left corner of the picture.

Here is Mary Tyler Moore in recent years.

8.  Here’s some words on celebrity deaths.  People always seem so shocked when a celebrity dies.  I do sometimes as well, but we have to remember one thing.  EVERYBODY IS GOING TO DIE.  People like Mary Tyler Moore lived great lives into their 80’s.  Yes, it’s sad when a celebrity in their 20’s and 30’s dies, but that also is life.  Not one of us is going to escape death.  That’s a fact.  We always see these actors, actresses, and singers as they were years ago.  When we think of Carol Burnett, for example, our minds bring up her great show and what she looked like back then.  But she’s past 80 as well.  Someday we will get the news of her demise as well.

Ironically enough, the one passing that is going to take down Facebook and blow the internet up is Betty White.  She in her 90’s and still going strong.  But she has found an entirely new fan base of people from 10 years old up to her age.  I have already heard people saying that when she passes it is going to devastate them.  Once again, she’s in her 90’s.  It’s going to happen sometime sooner than later.

9.  I need to vent about my Washington Redskins.  Our star quarterback, Kirk Cousins is lined up for an incredibly big pay day.  Rumors are swirling that the Redskins might not sign him, that they might trade him for draft picks.  THAT WOULD BE IDIOTIC.

My guess is that we will sign him to a long term contract.  Maybe the franchise tag for the next year, but after that a long term contract.  Fans like me are hoping that it’s a long term contract right out of the chute.

I have been reading some comments from Skins fans that they don’t want him as part of our team.  It basically stems from him throwing two devastating interceptions in the final game of the season.  That loss knocked us out of the playoff picture.  BUT SERIOUSLY?  There were a lot of other players that could have made some more plays to help them win.

I just have to wonder what Kirk Cousins has to do to impress people?  He has thrown for almost 5,000 yards two years in a row.  He already holds a few Redskins passing records.  He helped the Redskins win the division last year.  Honestly, in this world of “what have you done for me lately”, I just have to wonder.  WHAT THE HECK DOES HE HAVE TO DO?

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson went on a camping trip. After a good meal and a bottle of wine, they laid down for the night, and went to sleep. Some hours later, Holmes awoke and nudged his faithful friend. “Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.” Watson replied, “I see millions and millions of stars.” “What does that tell you?” Watson pondered for a minute. “Astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies, and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo. Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful and that we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you?” Holmes was silent for a minute, then spoke. “It tells me that someone has stolen our tent.”

Where in the world has time gone?

Time scares me.  It is going way too fast.  My parents warned me about this, but when you’re younger you don’t think of it.  Dear time.  SLOW DOWN PLEASE!!

1.  How about some funny stuff?

Finally, a hospital with a sense of humor!

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Thank goodness they weren’t looking for URANUS.

She must be awesome.  He’s always back with her.

And last, but certainly not least!

2.  Well, we spent New Year’s weekend in St. Paul, MN.  We were fortunate to have your boys with us, as well as Tyler’s new beautiful girlfriend Carly.  We absolutely adore this young woman.  We had some fun.  We, unfortunately witnessed a Minnesota Wild loss.  The Wild had a 12 game win streak going into the game, and the Columbus Blue Jackets had a 14 game win streak.  THE PLACE WAS ELECTRIC.  Sadly though, our Wild lost.

But, a Minnesota sports team redeemed our faith that weekend.  And, surprise, it was the Minnesota Vikings.  They just crushed the Chicago Bears.  We basically went to see the new digs.  No not Stefan Diggs, their wide receiver.  He didn’t play anyway.  We went to see the new digs called the U.S. Bank Stadium.  All I can say is….WOWZERS!!

Check out the inside!

U.S. Bank stadium is hosting the Super Bowl at the end of next season, or early 2018.  I will say this.  They are ready.  People will be blown away by it.  Now, I just need my Washington Redskins to pull their heads out and get to the big game next year.  Wouldn’t that be awesome…for me?  Actually, the perfect Super Bowl for me and the boys would be the Washington Redskins taking on the Tennessee Titans.  Possible?  Yep.  Likely, probably not.  But, anything can happen.

3.  After the Minnesota Wild game, we all went out for some appetizers and such to celebrate New Year’s Eve.  You guessed it.  My gorgeous wife and I were back in the hotel room by 10:30PM.  The kids made it until midnight, but we weren’t even close.

Because we fell asleep and honestly, didn’t care, we missed the ball dropping on TV.  We apparently also missed an implosion of a performance by Mariah Carey.

Yeah, I don’t know the words.  Actually, I’m not a fan of hers by any means.  But, I still don’t wish on anyone what happened to her.  She looked and sounded like she was lost.  It almost seemed like an imposter up on the stage.  And by the way, she doesn’t quite dress like someone in her 40’s.  Good for her, I guess. A lot of people would call it a little too revealing, however, many others would say, “not bad for 46.”

4.  Remember Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas?

From all accounts, a very good man.  He passed away 15 years ago yesterday.  (January 8th)  He was only 69 years old.

While researching him, I found a Wendy’s store that saluted their late boss and owner.

I’m just thinking that they should have separated the two thoughts of the sign.  HA HA

I know it was a mistake, but it makes it look like the body wasn’t even cold and they’re replacing him.  Funny stuff.

5.  Yesterday (January 8th) also was another milestone, and this one is hard to comprehend.  Remember my previous post a bit ago talking about the year’s spinning by?  Well, get this!!

Elvis Presley would have been 82 yesterday!!!  EIGHTY TWO.  That just doesn’t seem possible.  But, I have to remember that he died at 42.  Here is an artist’s rendition of what Elvis might have looked like today.

Of course, we like to remember him this way.

I am a huge Elvis fan.  I have a family member who is a diehard, and has a pretty vast collection of Elvis stuff. Much to my wife’s dismay, this relative is leaving ALL OF IT to me when she is gone.  Obviously, we want her here for many more years, so I’m not thinking at all about the deal.

Ready to watch a couple of cool videos?  These are my three favorite Elvis Presley songs.

Number three:

Number two:

And, my all time favorite Elvis song.  It gives me goosebumps.

The younger generation won’t understand this, but we will NEVER EVER see an American talent of this proportion.  Elvis and The Beatles will never be touched as the biggest and greatest artists this world has ever seen.

Ok, I want to preface this by saying that THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL STATEMENT.  Some of you may think so, but it is not meant to be political.

It’s about celebrities.  When will singers and actors and actresses realize that we DON’T CARE ABOUT THEIR OPINIONS?

It is getting ridiculous out there with all of these big stars, and other so called “celebrities” having to put out their opinion on every single thing happening in this world.  I DON’T CARE.  WE DON’T CARE.  When I go see some of my favorite singers, I had better not hear ONE THING about politics, or other worldly events.  Why would anyone of these idiots think that their opinion would sway however we feel?

And here’s another thing.  When this country is divided almost in half about some issues, don’t the entertainers realize that when they stand up so loudly about some issues that they are torking off and alienating half of their fan base?

I wish that the “other halves” of these issues that the celebrities are pushing, would STOP going to those actor’s movies, and STOP buying their music and going to their concerts.  Maybe when their movie sales and music sales are cut in half, they will realize to just shut up and act.  Or shut up and sing.

There…rant over….And I still don’t feel better about it.

7.  What is going on in this world?  You can’t turn on the TV or read the paper without seeing shootings, murders, abuse and other horrible crimes.  These four kids who brutally beat and tortured a mentally challenged boy is about the worst thing I’ve seen recently.  The four are facing “hate crime” charges and rightfully so.  I just find it appalling at what is happening.  Shootings in airports, schools, movie theaters, and God knows wherever else.  Suicide bombings, beheadings, child abductions, and the list goes on and on and on.  I think that social media has something to do with all of this, because it’s so available.  People can try to do things to impress others on Facebook, Instagram and others.  But the main this is, evil is rampant in this world today.  I just don’t know if we can get this thing turned around before it’s too late.

8.  How do you make your popcorn at night?  I have two ways.  I have a stove top popper when I use the kit that I order online.  And, I have the good old traditional popcorn popper that you plug into the wall.  I use some butter flavored oil, and then usually Pop Secret or Orville Redenbacher popcorn.  But the key to this is…ONE HALF STICK OF BUTTER.  Not margarine, but butter.  And salt.  Sometimes my wife wonders how the heck I’m even alive anymore.

Little Johnny was in class and the teacher announced that they were going to try something different to help everyone get to know each other a little better, and to help with their spelling.

She explained, “I want you to stand up and give us the occupation of your father, spell it, and say one thing he would give us all if he was here today.”

The first student raised her hand to volunteer.

“Marcy,” the teacher said. “You may go first.”

Marcy replied, “My father is a banker. B-A-N-K-E-R and if he was here today, he would give us all a shiny new penny.”

The teacher said, “Very nice, Marcy, who wants to go next?”

Kevin stood up and announced, “My father is a baker. B-A-K-E-R and if he was here today, he would give us all a freshly-baked cookie.”

“Very good,” the teacher told Kevin.

Jeff was next, and he said, “My father is an accountant. A-K, no wait, A-C-K, no…”

Before he could attempt to spell it once more, the teacher cut him off and told him to sit back down and to think about it for a while. When he thought he knew how to spell it, he could stand back up and try again.

Little Johnny raised his hand in excitement hoping to be acknowledged by the teacher. The teacher called on little Johnny to go next.

Johnny said, “My father is a bookie. B-O-O-K-I-E and if he was here today, he would give us all 20:1 odds Jeff will never be able to spell “accountant.”

Unreal.  Another year is shot.  Where does the time go?

Lots of truth in that one!  Imagine me at 52.  Most likely sleeping by 9PM.

I want to take this time to wish each and every one of you an extremely HAPPY and SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR!!  I hope that 2017 is a booming year for all of us!!

Now here’s a good idea!  Obviously something I would do!

This lady is NOT off to a good start!!

Good news/bad news.  You choose.

I think I just found me new resolution!!!!!!

And finally….

This has been the most brutal year that I can recall when it comes to famous celebrities biting the bullet.  The last few days were even more shocking.

“Star Wars” star Carrie Fisher suffers a massive heart attack on a plane.  She is rushed to the hospital for surgery, and we are told, never regained consciousness.  Her Mom, the legendary Debbie Reynolds, so overcome with grief, DIES THE VERY NEXT DAY.  I just couldn’t believe it watching this event unfold.  Debbie’s son said her last words were “I want to be with Carrie.”  And then she suffers a stroke FIFTEEN minutes later.  Unreal.

I cannot imagine losing a child.  I don’t EVER want to find out how it feels.  To those of you who read my blog who have lost a child, I pray for you, and my heart breaks for you.  I can completely understand where Debbie Reynolds head and heart were at.  She basically died of a broken heart.

Let’s salute these wonderful wonderful ladies, kicking it off with Carrie’s legendary role in “Star Wars.”

Here is Carrie Fisher recently.

Debbie Reynolds had been in the showbiz business for around 7 decades.  She was everybody’s sweetheart back in her early days.  And it’s easy to see why.

Here is a picture of both of them together.

And, they are still together.  Evidently a bond that was and is so strong that nothing, including death can break.  Bless them both!!

3.  We found out on Christmas Day that the lead singer of the pop group “Wham” had died suddenly.  George Michael, of course, was a huge star on his own as well. George Michael died suddenly at 53.  I’m 52.  Kind of hits close to home.

We will fondly remember him for a couple of big hits.  Well, actually quite a few hits, but these two are MY favorites.

And their multi million selling album!

Here is George Michael in recent times.

George Michael taken to hospital

4.  We need to play a little music for you.  Here are my two faves from George and “Wham.”

5.  Speaking of Christmas, I have a couple of things to share with you.  First of all, our Christmas picture.  This is my beautiful bride and myself.  OK, I will say it before you do, because I hear it all the time.  YES, I OUT KICKED MY COVERAGE…BY A BUNCH!

Secondly, we had the most, ummmm, shall I say “UNIQUE” weather on Christmas Day.  Never before have we seen a situation like this.  We had heavy downpours of rain, plus thunder and lightning and sleet. Yeah.  And then the rain froze and everyone’s yards, sidewalks and roads were like an ice skating rink.  Some people in our area are STILL without power at the writing of this blog.  Some people were without power for 4 or 5 days.  IMAGINE THAT.  Well, as us South Dakotan’s do, we made it thru it. But it was CRAZY!!  Oh yeah, I almost forgot something.  We were under a FLASH FLOOD WARNING on Christmas Day.

6.  My Minnesota Wild are currently doing something that they have never done.  They are in the midst of a 12 game winning streak.  12 GAMES.

Plus, the Columbus Blue Jackets have won 14 in a row.  They play each other on Saturday in St. Paul.  AND GUESS WHO’S GOING TO BE THERE?  Yep, my family.  This is a record event.  Never in NHL history have two teams played each other with this big of win streaks.  Hopefully it’s an exciting game.  Hopefully the Wild keep it going.

Oh yeah.  We are also going to a Vikings game.  The Vikes and the Bears.  When I bought the tickets, this game had playoff implications.  Not so much anymore.  But, my wife is dying to see the new stadium, so it’s well worth it.

7.  All my Washington Redskins have to do is WIN on Saturday to make the playoffs. We host the New York Giants.  This is the third time in the last month that we have controlled our own destiny into the playoffs.  Hopefully we don’t screw it up again this time.

8.  OK.  This post may generate some comments.  Hopefully it doesn’t.  Hopefully everyone treats it as ONE MAN’S OPINION.  But here it is.

When Carrie Fisher died, Steve Martin tweeted a tribute to her that came from the heart.  Here it is.

Well, a few people went crazy and blasted Steve Martin to the point that he pulled his tweet off of his account.  SERIOUSLY?  Can’t a person have an opinion anymore?  They called this message “sexist” and “unthoughtful.”

See, here’s ONE of the things thats wrong with America.  EVERYONE IS OFFENDED ABOUT SOMETHING…AND THEY HAVE TO TELL US ABOUT IT.  And they even expect CHANGE because they are offended.  Hey, when I was younger, we were offended about stuff.  But we complained a bit and usually got over it.  Today they DEMAND change.  Today they DEMAND that things go their way.  It’s absolutely insane.  We have become so politically correct that it’s going backwards.  If 2,000 people like something and one person doesn’t, WHY SHOULD IT CHANGE?  As you can see, it is driving me crazy.  Not just Steve Martin’s unfortunate event, but every single thing that’s on the news.  Every single thing that someone is offended about and has to be on the national news to tell us about it.  C’mon America.  We’re better than this!!

How about a short and sweet one.

A set of jumper cables walk into a bar.  The bartender looks at them and says, “hey, don’t you be startin’ anything.”

I don’t know what it is, but that joke has always killed me.

Or how about this one.

Two norwegians walk into a bar.  The third one ducked.

OK, enough Tom Foolery.
