gene wilder today

2.  well, the national corn industry owes us a big thanks over the weekend…corn seemed to be our theme this week.  we picked up the most delicious corn on the cob we’ve ever tasted in the k-mart parking lot from a nice older couple.  we ate corn on the cob friday night, saturday night and sunday noon.  plus we had popcorn friday night, saturday night, and sunday afternoon.  and to top all of that, we watched “CHILDREN OF THE CORN” friday night with mitchell.  mitchell said the movie was incredibly good.

3.  sounds like my boys and their friends had a blast in omaha this past couple of days when they went to see “blink 192” in concert.  they are a chip off the old block, as they showed up at the venue HOURS before the concert, and got first in line outside the building.  i haven’t heard from them this morning, but i’m sure they were right up front.  mitchell’s facebook says that he saw the most incredible event of his life last night.  can’t wait to talk to them.

4.  jeannie and i saw a couple of good movies over the weekend.  saturday night, against my wishes, we watched the will smith movie ‘SEVEN POUNDS.’  that was INCREDIBLY good…with a great story line…has will smith ever done a horrible movie?  then yesterday afternoon we went to carmike to see “the ugly truth.” i also saw this one against my wishes, because i wanted to see “district 9.”  anyway, it was a very entertaining movie.  you KNEW what the outcome was going to be, but still it was a wonderful movie……lots of raunchy parts, but very funny….

5.  we had the church league softball tournament friday night at saturday night in aberdeen.  my church, st. john’s lutheran in hecla was in the tournament, but we were missing four of our biggest batters this weekend, plus two of our female stars.  BUT, the team stuck together to take SECOND PLACE right behind plymouth congregational church, who played a great tournament.

6.  we ended up playing FIVE GAMES IN A ROW saturday which was hard on us old guys…ha ha…anyway, we saw the CRAZIEST play i have ever seen in softball.  we were up 13-12 over freedom worship center for the right to go to the championship game.  it was the bottom of the last inning, two outs, bases loaded and one of freedom’s good hitters up.  the hitter hit it between the pitchers mound and second base.  our pitcher dove for it, ended up on his stomach on the ground, meanwhile our first baseman tripped and ended up sitting on his butt on first base.  so, our pitcher, on his belly, shuffles the ball to our first baseman who is now sitting on first base. he catches it, and we hold on to go to the championship game…that was crazy…….

7.  jeannie and i had a GREAT weekend together while the boys were in omaha.  i’ll tell you what…i’ve always been nervous about the kids leaving home for good, but after this weekend, i’m kind of looking forward to it.

8.  my dad came home friday afternoon…yeehaw…it’s so good to have mom and dad home, and they seemed THRILLED to be home after almost six weeks in minneapolis…

9.  angry senior citizens are showing up at health care town hall meetings. usually, the only time you see senior citizens this angry is when someone yells, BINGO….

10.  this weekend was the 40th anniversary of the legendary concert WOODSTOCK…and now the hippies from the 60’s are IN their 60’s…now the only high they’re worried about is their blood pressure…

11.  so called ‘celebrity’ heidi montag says that she found herself thumbing through issues of playboy shopping for the perfect breasts..hmmm….now if we can only get her a magazine to thumb through so she can shop for talent and brains….

12.  jesse jackson compared michael vick to jackie robinson for the way he refused to give up and managed to return to the nfl after getting out of prison…wouldn’t it be cool if we could someday form an nfl team completely out of convicted felons…oh wait, we already have that…they’re called ‘THE DALLAS COWBOYS..”   oooh..that felt good…

13.  madonna celebrated her birthday over the weekend in front of tens of thousands of people…i’m not sure if they were concert goers or simply the people she’s either dated or adopted…

14.  JOKE OF THE DAY:

After a particularly poor game of golf, a popular club member skipped the clubhouse and started to go home. As he was walking to the parking lot to get his car, a policeman stopped him and asked, “Did you tee off on the sixteenth hole about twenty minutes ago?”
“Yes,” the golfer responded.
“Did you happen to hook your ball so that it went over the trees and off the course?”
“Yes, I did. How did you know?” he asked.
“Well,” said the police officer very seriously, “Your ball flew out onto the highway and crashed through a driver’s windshield. The car went out of control, crashing into five other cars and a fire truck. The fire truck couldn’t make it to the fire, and the building burned down. So, what are you going to do about it?”
The golfer thought it over carefully and responded: “I think I’ll close my stance a little bit, tighten my grip and lower my right thumb.”

HAVE A GREAT MONDAY EVERYBODY…
